Fill gaps: using/adding input masks


You can help your students or candidates to correctly answer a question by adding input masks to the text input fields.

  • Select one of the default Edumatic input masks for:
    • Date: DD/MM/YYYY, DD-MM-YYYY
    • Time: HH:mm
    • Number
      • * : Whole number
      • *,* : Decimal number
      • *,# : Decimal number with one decimal place
      • *,## : Decimal number with two decimal places
      • *,### : Decimal number with three decimal places
    • Number with prefix or suffix
      • *,## %
      • € *,##
  • Create your own custom input mask with a prefix or suffix of your choice.


To add an input mask to an exercise, proceed as follows:

  1. In the Workspace module, create a Fill gaps.
  2. Add one or more gaps.
  3. Click on a gap to open the corresponding tab below.
  4. Do one of the following:
    If you want to add...then...
    a default input mask
    1. Open the Input mask drop down list
    2. Select the mask of your choice.
    an input mask with a suffix or prefix of your choice
    1. Open the Input mask drop down list.
    2. Select the number mask of your choice.
    3. Click in the input mask field.
    4. Enter the prefix or suffix of your choice.

    Tip: To be able to use a mask placeholder (D,M,Y,H,m,* or #) as prefix or suffix in your custom input mask, you need to protect this character by means of “\” . Example: *,## \m .

  5. Click in the Answer field below
  6. Enter the correct answer.

    Tip: The Answer field will turn red when the answer does not comply with the selected input mask.

  7. Click Save.
