Background
A language group is not an item, but a kind of container in which you can collect multiple language versions of an item.
Example:
A language group Dutch – French will contain Dutch and a French items. A language group Dutch – French – English will contain Dutch, French and English items. Language groups allow you to create multilingual publications. For a multilingual publication French- Dutch for example, items will be selected only from the language groups with Dutch and French items. In other words, for each Dutch item in the publication, there is a French equivalent and vice versa.
Procedure
Proceed as follows to create a language group:
- Right click the folder in which you want the language group to appear.
- Click on New multilingual item.
Proceed as follows to add an item to a language group:
- Right click on the language group and select New item.
Result: The screen Make new item appears. - Name the item.
- Select an item type.
- Select the language.
- Click OK.
- Open the tab Properties if you want to add Metadata to the item.
- Open the tab Content to develop the item.
Tip: The standard setting of a language group on creation is inactive. (You can see this at the bottom of your screen, next to the Save button.) This is because no items have been added yet. If the language group is ready (i.e. if items have been added and all languages have been selected correctly), the author can validate the language group. To validate a language group, check Active at the bottom of the page, next to the Save button.
