2. Selecting the correct language setup

Background

The language configuration defines how many languages can be selected on the channel selectors of the delegate units. You can verify that the correct language configuration is selected by checking the number of selectable booths on one of the delegate units.

Each language configuration comes in 2 “flavours”, named “Interpreter training setup for room ….” and “Interpreter setup for room … “

In a regular training environment the “Interpreter training setup” should be selected. It ensures that a teacher always listens to the student in booth 01 when selecting “01” on his delegate unit, and that the collected recording of booth 01 is actually containing the work of the student in that booth.

At some point it might be required to teach the students about the functionality of the 3 selectable output channels (A,B,C) which allow interpreters in a real life environment to take over the translation from another booth. In order to allow output channel selection, the “Interpreter setup” needs to be selected instead of the “Interpreter training setup”. The output channel selection buttons can now be freely used by the students, and therefore the teacher is no longer certain who he is actually listening to when selecting a certain language channel.

Procedure for independent mode

Note: In “independent” mode, 2 Central Units control the Plixus network of each room independently, and 2 Interpreter Control Center applications control the booths of each room independently.

To select the correct language setup for independent mode, proceed as follows:

  1. Power on both Central Units.
  2. Open a Chrome web browser.
  3. Browse to the Central Units' IP addresses.
Result: The Plixus Central Unit configuration page launches.
  4. Select the Interpretation option.
  5. Select the correct language configuration for each Central Unit.
Tip: The configuration name will indicate which rooms it covers.

Procedure for coupled mode

Note: In “coupled” mode, only 1 single Central Unit is powered and the Plixus networks of both rooms are interconnected. Only 1 teacher application is running, and controls the booths of both rooms.

To select the correct language setup for coupled mode, proceed as follows:

  1. Power on one Central Unit.
  2. Open a Chrome web browser.
  3. Browse to the Central Units' IP address.
Result: The Plixus Central Unit configuration page launches.
  4. Select the Interpretation option.
  5. Select the correct language configuration.
