Canvas

Background

The Canvas item type allows users to draw on their PC or tablet with a device that supports writing with a pen. 

Procedure

To create a Canvas item, proceed as follows:

1. Go to Authoring > Items. 
2. Go to the folder in which you want to add an item.
3. Click on   to add an item. 
4. Select Canvas.
   Result: The authoring screen of the item opens.
5. Enter the item name in the breadcrumb trail at the top.
6. Click in the content block and fill in the instruction.
7. Click + Add block if you want to add additional content blocks.
8. If you want to add a background image to the canvas:
   • Click in the interaction block.
     Result: The Block tab is opened.
   • In the Block tab, browse to and upload your image.
     Result: Your background image is added to the canvas. 
     
9. If you want to add a Model answer, click in the interaction block. You can:
   • Upload a PDF.
   • Draw or write the model answer on the canvas.
     
     
     

   Notes:

   • If you upload a PDF, the model answer that you entered manually will be removed.
   • The participants will see the model answer as the Solution in exercises and/or when reviewing their session provided the solution is shown in the review template.
10. Click Preview to try out your item.

Item-specific options

Scoring

The only way to score the canvas item type is manual scoring via the Grading module.

Colour of the participant's pen

To select the colour of the participant's pen:

1. Go to the Block tab.
2. Under Options, select the colour from the dropdown.
   Result: The participant cannot select another colour in the player, and will write in the colour you selected. 
3. If you want to allow the participants to choose the colour of the pen, select the option Allow participants to choose the colour.
   
   Result: The participant can choose the colour he wants to use when writing on the canvas.  

Canvas features for participants

In the Canvas type, the participants have the following options at their disposal:

• : Select and move a drawing.
• : Move the canvas.
• : Draw with the pen on the canvas.
• : Draw shapes on the canvas.
• : Type on the canvas using the keyboard.
• and: Select what should be deleted. First, select the selection button (). Select the element you want to delete and then click on the recycle bin.
• : Undo or redo your previous action.
• : Zoom in / out / to fit.
• : Show the canvas in full screen.
