Background
A scenario is basically the blueprint of the assignment the author wants to create. For more information, see About scenarios.
Working with scenarios is done in two steps:
- First, the author creates and approves a scenario.
- Subsequently, the author can use the scenario to create assignments. The author can create one or more assignments with fixed item selection, or an on the fly assignment.
This document describes how to create assignments from scenarios. For more information on how to create a scenario, see Creating a scenario.
Creating one or more assignments with fixed items
Proceed as follows to create one or more assignments with fixed items from a scenario:
- Go to Authoring > Scenarios.
- Open the scenario of your choice.
- Click the button Create assignment in the top right corner.
Note: You can only create an assignment from approved scenarios, not from draft scenarios. If the button to create assignments is not enabled, you need to approve your scenario first. More information.
- Select Create one or more assignments with a fixed item selection.
Result: The wizard Create assignment(s) appears in a popup window. - In the Details step:
- Enter the number of assignments you want to create (maximum 10).
- Enter the name of the assignment.
Note: When you select more than 1 assignment, the assignments that will be created will have the name you entered followed by a number starting at 1. For example, when you create 2 assignments called "Math exam", then you will get 2 assignments called "Math exam 1" and "Math exam 2".
- Optionally, add tags and a description for the assignment.
- Click Next.
Result: You move to the Behaviour step.
- In the Behaviour step, select:
- The assignment type. More information.
- The interface language. More information.
- The assignment template. More information.
- The theme of the assignment. More information.
- Click Next.
Result: In case you selected Exam, you will move to the Security step and you can proceed with step 7. In case you selected Exercise, you will move to the Score and results step and you can proceed with step 8.
- In the Security step:
- If you want to secure your exam, enable Safe Exam Browser and enter the required settings. More information.
- Click Next.
Result: You move to the Score and results step.
- In the Score and results step:
- Define the score and result settings for your assignment. More information.
- Click Next.
Result: You get an overview of the assignment or assignments that will be created and their settings.
- Check if everything is set up the way you want, and click Save.
Result: You are redirected to the Assignments module. The assignments overview page is automatically filtered by the scenario you used. As a result, you only see the assignment or assignments you just created. You can check, approve and publish them. For more information, see Creating an assignment with fixed items.Note: The items from the item blocks are added as a flat list in the corresponding parts in your assignment. The item blocks in the scenario are not retained in the assignment parts, but they determine the order in which the items are added to the assignment parts.
Creating an on the fly assignment
Note: This feature will become available in assessmentQ version 2025.03.
Proceed as follows to create an on the fly assignment from a scenario:
- Go to Authoring > Scenarios.
- Open the scenario of your choice.
Note: You can only create an assignment from approved scenarios, not from draft scenarios. If the button to create assignments is not enabled, you need to approve your scenario first. More information.
- Click the button Create assignment in the top right corner.
Result: The Create assignment pop-up appears. - Select Create an assignment with an on the fly item selection.
Result: You are automatically redirected to the Assignments module. A draft on the fly assignment is created, and your assignment is opened on the Items tab. You can check, approve and publish your assignment. For more information, see Creating an on the fly assignment.Notes:
- When your newly created assignment is opened, the focus is set in the name field so you can immediately enter the name of your assignment.
- The on the fly assignment that is created with a scenario is an exam. If you need an exercise, you need to change the assignment type under the tab Behaviour.
- The item blocks in your scenario have become on the fly folders in your assignment. The number of requested items in the item blocks corresponds with the number of requested items in the on the fly folders of your assignment.
